GOLD STAR FAMILIES

We are committed to remembering our fallen heroes and their sacrifices, the burden of which their families will forever carry. Since World War I, when the Blue Star banner that hung in the front window became an unofficial symbol of a military family member serving overseas, the blue star was covered with gold if a service member was lost in battle.

QUILTS OF VALOR

We lovingly sew patriotic and military themed quilts to present to Veterans.  The quilt presentation ceremony includes

  • A certificate thanking the veteran for their service

  • Our heartfelt appreciation and recognition of the veteran's sacrifice for our country

  • A "Mom hug" wrapping the veteran in their Quilt of Valor

VAVS - VA PALO ALTO

The Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service (VAVS) Program, under the management of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), provides for community participation in the VA Program of Care and Treatment of Veteran patients.

Through this program, Blue Star Mother volunteer efforts and resources are combined to serve America’s Veterans and their families with dignity and compassion.

WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA

National Wreaths Across America Day is an event in December dedicated to remembering the sacrifices veterans have made in wars since the American Revolution.

We are proud to support four local WAA participating cemeteries throughout the year by promoting wreath donations for the event in December.

PLAYHOUSE PROJECT

We are proud to partner with the Habitat for Humanity Playhouse Program, a fun and meaningful way to volunteer with friends and colleagues, while raising funds for Habitat Greater San Francisco and benefiting community partners and local families. We work side by side with teams of volunteers to construct and paint children’s playhouses that are donated to local Habitat families, veteran and active duty military personnel families, and other local nonprofits serving children in need.
